The Mission

Wind turbine inspection by drone replaces two traditional methods that are both bad: rope-access blade inspection (dangerous, slow, requires turbine shutdown) and ground-based visual assessment (misses most defects). Aerial inspection captures every meter of blade surface, every fastener on the nacelle, and every weld on the tower, without touching the turbine or interrupting production.

Blade condition assessment. Every blade captured in high-resolution RGB from safe standoff distance. Leading edge erosion, gel coat wear, lightning strike damage, cracks, and delamination flagged and priority-scored. Deliverable includes annotated blade maps ready for warranty claim submission per IEC 61400 series and turbine OEM specifications.

Thermal analysis for internal defects. Radiometric thermal imaging catches sub-surface delamination, lightning strike internal damage, and moisture ingress patterns invisible to visual inspection. Per IEC TS 62446-3 thermal drone inspection methodology (adapted for wind). Especially valuable for post-storm assessment where visible surface damage may be minor but internal structural damage significant.

Foundation, tower, and access documentation. Full site orthomosaic covering pad, tower base, access road, and site drainage. Documents ground condition changes over time (settlement, erosion) that affect turbine longevity. Standards-cited per ASTM E2533 for structural inspection.

Deliverables include per-turbine PDF reports with GPS-tagged defect maps, thermal orthomosaics, and warranty-claim-ready documentation. Chain-of-custody flight log on every mission for insurance and O&M program defensibility.
